Re: Any percussion help? (translations)

I suspect that "moteur lent" and "moteur rapide" would be equally understood (as well as shorter)

Re: Dorico 5.1.20 released

one of my biggest fixes came with this update: aggregate time signatures. I have a passage in 7/4 in my 2nd symphony, and needed to have dotted lines to divide each measure into 4/4 plus 3/4. I could get the dotted line, but at the cost of no longer being able to have 7/4 as my time signature. This ...

Re: glissando question (text vs no-text)

I'm thinking from the point of view of consistency. Would it be inconsistent to have the "gliss" text appear only in the 1st appearance of a gliss (let's say I have a few glisses in a row), then repeating later in the score where needed? And to completely leave the text out of the harp par...

Re: glissando question (text vs no-text)

well, my own music is a bit on the tamer side, not quite as "adventurous".

Re: glissando question (text vs no-text)

so would you be a proponent of, for example, harp and trombone glissandi without the "gliss." text?

glissando question (text vs no-text)

A comment made on the Dorico forum got me thinking about this and wondering if standards might have changed in recent years. With certain instruments, a line from one note to another is "obviously" a glisssando. For example, in a trombone part I don't think anyone would question what that ...

the Harp pedal widget is brilliant.
it helps a great deal with editing harp pedals when your memory isn't what it once was.

is who a forum member? "Daniels"?

no, it's the name of a standard for writing out a form of shorthand of the instrumentation of a piece of music.

Re: has anyone ever heard of "Daniels Instrumentation Standard"?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have NO idea and think it's stupid that they don't even give a resource on where to learn how to write using this "standard". Like I said, the only example I could find online (that did not involve paying a monthly fee to access scores) included ONLY the woodwinds, with no indi...

Re: has anyone ever heard of "Daniels Instrumentation Standard"?

personally, I find it stupidly fussy to include a number for every woodwind within the square brackets. it seems ONLY the instruments involved in any sort of doubling really need to be mentioned. and according to their guidelines, if an instrument is playing the doubling instrument throughout, then ...
