Rests in 5/4

Hi, just wondering... I'm engraving a piano piece in 5/4 in which the r. h. has two whole bar rests and then four beats of rests and a final quarter note. Although the whole note rest is technically ok four the 4 beats, it looks odd following the two previous empty bars. Would it be wrong if I use t...

Request for revision

Hi, I'm finishing a project in Finale with piano pieces by a Chilean composer from the first half to the 20th century. It would be my first printed publication, and still have a couple of months before entering into press. Is there any chance someone could take a look into it and give some feedback?...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

I'm still learning how to use Dorico, and struggling with beam/stem settings. I also have a dream, that given a set of parameters, and after editing a beamed group, one could click a "learn" button that could modify the correspondent parameters. And also to have settings for beams within t...

Re: Stem Direction-the Long View

Hi John, it's quite a mind opener issue! I wonder what do you think of the upper right corner measure, and the following one, with stems up and down... an implied third voice?

Re: Line/Slur/etc. settings for Dorico

I also was puzzled by it, but alas, it makes the tie to cross the flag, close to the notehead, works very well. There's a setting I don't find, the minimum space after a clef and a note, where no key or time signature is shown. Finale didn't have it so I manually set those measures to start displayi...

Re: Line/Slur/etc. settings for Dorico

I now see that in order for those changes to take effect, I must save at least one project!
For in order to change anything in the library menu, a project must be on screen, and if not saved, no library changes are kept.

Re: Line/Slur/etc. settings for Dorico

Hi, regarding this, I haven't yet figured out how changes are applied program or project wide; in engraving options, I’ve seen the Save as Default. Will that work for all the menu items I change or must be activated for each one? The reset and remove, affect every option changed in all items, or is ...

Tacet al fine

Hello: I'm working on a piece (still in Finale) that has many time signature changes, in which several instruments stop playing about halfway until the end. In those parts, is it ok to add a final multimeasure rest with a tacet al fine text, despite there are several metrics changes afterwards? Or s...
