Re: Inquiry on the origin of ties
Are any manuscripts by that composer available? I'd be curious if that practice is reflected in the manuscripts as well, or if it is a "house style" of the publisher/engraver. Do other publications from the publisher around the same time period use that practice?

Re: The End of FINALE
Don't you think that Sibelius might have the same end like Finale in the next 10 years or so? A few years ago I would have said yes. Avid seems to have some renewed interest in it though, and it is being actively being developed again, so I don't really know. MuseScore is crushing the educational m...

I haven't thought about this in a while, but here's what I've been defaulting to in Dorico:

Nice!!!
Yeah, that does look weird. I suppose you could change the voice column index then move it with the note spacing tool.

Re: OpEd: Thoughts on the end of Finale.
So I ask: is there any necessity to actually have the source files readily available after a works has been finished? What does "finished" even mean? The top Broadway shows now can run for 25 years, plus touring productions, a zillion cast changes, pop orchestra versions of the hits, etc....

Music Book Printing (1915) - Specimens of Music Typography
Recently picked up a cool 1915 book titled Music Book Printing . One section depicts a few of the various movable music typefaces that were available at the time, and depicts how they would appear using the same musical examples. I found it interesting anyway so thought I'd share a few pages: type1....

Re: Proofreading suggestions
Bumping this older thread because I picked up a neat little book published in 1915 called "Music Book Printing" that has a good summary of the proofreading markings of the time. Most of these are still used!

Re: The End of FINALE
I was wondering if SmartMusic would also die if Finale went the way of the dodo. I think SmartMusic sales sort of exploded during COVID lockdown. I know the local public schools where I live are now using it. That's probably MM's current revenue stream and I assume one of the reasons they are killi...
