Re: Tried to use the smallest "allowed" staff size, but I think I still could include more measures per page
The problem with reducing staff size is, as I believe in Dorico as well, that it reduces proportionally the staff lines, stems and font sizes equally. But it the practice it shouldn't be the case. The engravers knife is always of the same size, only the pressure applied to the metal plate. It mea...

Tried to use the smallest "allowed" staff size, but I think I still could include more measures per page
Hi. I composed a violin sonata with Dorico. While there may be someone to turn the pages at the concert, I'd like to minimize the turns. Captura3.PNG I'm using a 6 mm staff size for the piano (as per Elaine Gould's book) and 4.5 mm for the violin. This yields pages with 4 systems on an A4 sheet (whi...

Re: First time using Dorico. How did I do?
Well done! You've certainly got the hang of it within the demo period! I hope you enjoyed it. Have you manually adjusted the height of the top system on some pages? For instance pages 4 and 5, it's nice, but page 6 is much higher, and 10 is too high for all the text. I would remove the manual adjus...

IMO the square brackets look better.Fred G. Unn wrote: ↑17 Feb 2022, 16:04 I'm also realizing that I find Dorico's cautionary parentheses a bit heavy handed. I'd love to substitute a thinner, more elegant glyph, but haven't figured out a way to do that yet or if it's even possible.

First time using Dorico. How did I do?
score: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BSe-k1G9iyADxjLOQy3l2J3zqYoPXtZn/view?usp=sharing I've grown more and more frustrated with Sibelius, and I've decided to switch to Dorico after seeing how tedious preparing a clean copy and the parts for a fairly complicated orchestral work would be. I'm curre...

Re: First post: Feedback on a score (typesetting, fonts, cover, etc)
Thank you all for the kind and extremely useful comments. Some of your observations (e.g. slur thickness) are spot on, even though they'd never crossed my mind before. Hope to keep on learning! What fonts have you used? I used Old Standard TT, and, indeed, Bodoni. I'm not sure what the accidental se...

First post: Feedback on a score (typesetting, fonts, cover, etc)
Hi! I'd like to share the score of a piece I wrote a few months ago. I'd like feedback on the music typeset, the fonts used, and the cover. I've read Elaine Gould's book and tried to learn some graphic design on my own, but I've never gotten feedback on any of that kind of stuff. score: https://driv...
