I've seen older editions use low-line dashes for hyphenated syllables and mid-line for the hyphen between compound words (and also mid-line to show em-dashes). I don't think it's an ideal solution but an alternative to think about.

This is an interesting case. I don't think "c. P." is being meant as "colla parte" as the P should be written in normal font and not italic were that the case. It's too brief a pasage for a cresc. abbrevation yet it's curious how the "c" is very specifically engraved st...

For Beethoven's "brainteaser", I have no idea. Very peculiar, if we trust the print was copied accurately (misreading of decresc for cresc. or something alike? Or if the cresc. was meant for left hand only? Hard to say.) Is it possible that in Chopin's case, he changed his mind about the p...
