Re: Specific chord voicings in a lead sheet
A post script. The pianist liked the ossia staff version, which appears above. But the next time we played it, I stumbled over it -- and it was my own chart! Basically, you have to remember "that extra line is just to show chord voicings, don't play it". But, reading on the fly, all my too...

Re: Specific chord voicings in a lead sheet
Thanks again for another helpful reply! I changed the noteheads to black. A quarter rest then shows up for beat 2, but I made them invisible. The G#minmaj isn't complicated, but since I don't want the fifth on top, I kept the ossia staff (is that the right term?) with the voicing I had in mind. I ha...

Re: Specific chord voicings in a lead sheet
Here's the solution I came up with, with the help of this forum and a local colleague. I claim no expertise in notation. I did make an effort to find other solutions. What would be the "standard solution"? Btw, I understand that it might be better to have the ossia staff (if I'm using that...

Re: Specific chord voicings in a lead sheet
Old thread, but I thought I'd follow up since I now have what I think is a reasonable solution. This forum helped, as did a pianist I work with. The pianist wanted to see the chord symbols written out on stems, which is understandable. I wanted to make it clear that they are not to be played in the ...

Re: What does this symbol mean?
I wish I could provide more info. I've never seen it elsewhere. If it's natural harmonics to be played with thumb, it would be difficult to get it to sound good. If it's artificial harmonics, why say thumb? A thumb pick sounds like a flatpick, more or less, why specify that?
Thanks for responding.

Re: What does this symbol mean?
Why not just say "thumb"? What does the symbol add to that? As for natural harmonics, do you mean the faint ones near the 4th fret? Artificial harmonics would be easier and probably sound better, but then why say thumb? They aren't going to sound much different if you use a pick, which, bt...

Re: What does this symbol mean?
I'll figure out how to post a photo.
Probably electric because almost nobody plays unamplified since Freddie Green passed.
