Re: Page size order conventions
there's no "rule", there's no need for it. Interesting. So, lacking specification, if you see 9x12, what do you think? In Italy, there is a convention I discovered today (!) among the library system that states that the first number is the height and the second number is the width. That i...

Re: Page size order conventions
since most paper used in publishing is in portrait mode, I generally presume that the shorter number is the width, and the longer the length. most writing paper here is measured this way: 8.5 x 11 (letter), 8.5 x 14 (legal), etc... So this is your assumption based on habit and experience, rather th...

Page size order conventions
Hello there, hope you are all well! Million-dollar question: when you see the description of a page of music, let's say 9x12 in or 250 x 320 mm, what do you visualise? Is the first number indicating the width or the height? Please motivate your opinion with specific countries' conventions. You will ...

Alternatively, with an Adobe account and going to acrobat.adobe.com, you can combine files online. Alternative that a...

Re: Lyrics in foreign language: italics of not?
As a BTW addendum, in Scottish, English and Irish poetry &c, ‘adieu’ has usually been pronounced rather differently from the French word, although generations younger than mine (I'm 83) seem inclined to pronounce it as if French, even when they are speaking English. I wonder how it is pronounce...

Lyrics in foreign language: italics of not?
In a passage like this (poem is set and original in English), should words like "adieu" be put in Italics? Screenshot 2024-03-14 at 22.36.49.png When I learned of the rule of putting foreign words in Italic it was 2008, and since then I've seen it both ways. What is your opinion and experi...
