Re: Clef design comparision

Very good and well-balanced accidentals! A problem which might very well be inherent in the basic shape of accidentals is that while I experience the distance between the sharp and the notehead as aesthetically pleasing, the distance between the natural and the notehead is too great. Although I don'...

Re: Clef design comparision

Very attractive font, Knut!
While the sharps are beautiful, won't they be much wider compared to naturals and flats? If that difference is too great, it can create aesthetic spacing problems.

Re: Behind Bars

Elaine Gould will probably forgive you. As you suggested, the title might not even be her idea.

That's exactly the way I did it. A built-in 'colla parte fermata' would be nicer, especially if it would stretch properly according to its length.

Re: Clef design comparision

Sorry for chiming in just to agree with what's already been said, but by the time I read these posts, my opinions have pretty much been expressed by the other contributors. It is kind of confirming! Octo's last contribution is handy. I agree that the difference between the thick (red & orange) a...

Re: Quarter rest design

I agree about Knut's rests being very beautiful, although I share John's gut feeling about the quarter rest falling to the left. I also agree with a preference for quarter rests nos. 2 and 5 in the comparison and part of that has to do with the fact that the rightmost angles are [almost] vertically ...

Re: Notational curiosity?

Absolutely! I had to create my own as a graphic expression. I didn't bother with playback, although you could conceivably set it to stretch the tempo.

Re: Behind Bars

I can see your point but it's just a pun. Taking a common expression and placing it in a different context, thereby creating a double entendre , is a worthy form of humour and it has no more significance than that. The title aside, it's a comprehensive and well thought-out book and worth having on t...

Re: Notational curiosity?

I just arranged Mozart's Cosí fan tutte and it abounds with these collective fermatas, sometimes over an entire measure, sometimes over several notes. They invariably appear at moments when one or more lines are expected to move freely or perhaps even improvise a cadenza, so I think it's pretty clea...
