Re: Fonts for Lyrics

I've spent the last few days printing out the same page of music with different lyric fonts, and I've decided on ITC Cleartype (aptly named!). I think some other publisher uses it for their house style. It's big on the X and small on the Y, which is what you want from a lyric font. It's quite modern...

Re: Fonts for Lyrics

Yes, the Ricordi scores seem to use a condensed Century. The ITC Century Book Condensed typeface, perhaps the closest you can buy, is a little too squeezed, IMO.
Of course, the suitability will also depend what other faces are used for titling, expressions.

Fonts for Lyrics

I seem to be vacillating between various different fonts for lyrics, and I change my mind constantly as to their suitability. Does anyone have any opinions/favourites? I tend to favour a reasonably weighty face that matches the "colour" of the music. Minion is nice, slightly condensed, tho...

Re: Maestro G Clef

Of course, Adobe is moving all its fonts to OpenType now, so it has released "Sonata Std" .otf. The problem is that they have re-mapped all the characters to the Unicode section for music symbols, and not the original ASCII characters. So it won't work as a replacement for "legacy&quo...

Finale: Flags and stems

Here's a problem that I have with Finale, and I'd be interested for your thoughts. The default stem thickness in Finale is 0.5pt. If the stem is made any thicker -- even 0.6pt, then it becomes thicker than the tapered end of the quaver flag, and so 'sticks out a bit'. One solution might be to place ...

Re: Clef design comparision

Ah. Interesting, as I generally find Bravura a bit heavy on the page.

Re: Clef design comparision

Knut, can you list the fonts in the original post of this thread?

I particularly like the last one on the right.

Re: NCS

New Century Schoolbook works fine for me, as do all my PostScript, TT and OTF fonts. However, there is a problem in El Cap with third-party font managers (Suitcase, FontExplorerX) activating Type 1 PS fonts if they reside outside the user domain. I think this may have been addressed by updated versi...
