Re: Muzitex - for music text
Hi Octo, Just off the top of my head, here are a few I've seen used for music that haven't been mentioned yet, just in order that I thought of them with Times at the top for comparison purposes. Some of these fonts do have true semibold versions available, especially if there is an Adobe "Pro&q...

Re: Clef design comparision
I suppose most have figured it out by now, but the fonts are, from L to R:
Maestro, Engraver, Petrucci, Opus, Sonata, Helsinki, Bravura

Re: Clef design comparision
I sort of assumed the alto clef would be symmetrical, and would be a mirror image of itself flipped over the center line. That's clearly not the case with #4 and #6. I wonder what the significance of that is. Perhaps the added visual mass on the bottom makes it appear more stable, so that it won't t...

Clef design comparision
Well, while I'm at it, here are comparisons of the clefs from 7 popular fonts, the same fonts I was using the the "Quarter rest design" thread and in the same order. Quite a lot of variation between glyphs!

Re: Quarter rest design
I am curious, Fred. I'll give it another day or so just so more people can have a shot at judging blind, then I'll post the graphic with the names. They are all very common though and are the stock fonts that are included with Finale and Sibelius, plus Steinberg's aforementioned Bravura font. The o...

Re: Quarter rest design
and the 'relic' fonts based on scans of plate engraved music, like November or Bravura. I don't own November, but as it is one of the more well known third party fonts, I'd be curious to see a comparison if anyone can post it. Bravura is one of the fonts I included above and is fairly easily distin...

Re: Quarter rest design
Wow, what is the name of your font Knut? Is it commercially available? I really like the 8ths, 16ths, etc.! Perhaps the dot is a teeny bit big for me, but the amount of white space both above and below make it very legible. I'm being picky here, but #2 in my examples above doesn't quite have enough ...

Re: Quarter rest design
If we want to continue the game, does anyone want to take on 8th rests? Of course, we're leaving aside the issue of how well the glyphs work together in context with each other, but here are the 8th rests from the same 7 fonts as above:

Re: Quarter rest design
Fred, I dislike any symbol that seems to be falling over. I am not exactly sure what causes this effect; maybe the alignment of the leftmost projections in the symbol. I could come to terms with something that has a slight forward lean, just from the standpoint of leading your eye forward on the pa...
