Lyrics: to uppercase or not to uppercase?
In my eclectic editorial journey, I am now starting to dedicate some time to chamber vocal music. When copying the material from the original source, I found that the start of a new verse is not uppercased in the lyrics, while it is when one reads the full poem in a book. First: when did the practic...

Re: Gould's Repeat Mark-Clef Rule
Now that I think of it, I have never encountered an "endstart repeat" (to use Dorico's language) with a double barline in between the two repeat marks. I would find that redundant. The use I have for double barline +repeat mark is when the section after the end-repeat is a new, non-repeate...

Re: Gould's Repeat Mark-Clef Rule
No, I've never seen this applied to any among the good editions I have browsed—but my knowledge is far from comprehensive, of course. The point you made is fascinating, since I had never looked at the repeat mark as "a mark" instead of "a barline". This is possibly due to me star...

Re: Gould's Repeat Mark-Clef Rule
I may be daydreaming, but isn't there now an option for Dorico to place clef change before the repeat barline?

Re: Another Mozart Centered Beam
Ah, authenticity, what a difficult and deep topic! If it were to be "authentic", then why not use the soprano clef directly? But I see your point: in the manuscript, there is no space constraint that would have obliged him to write the centred beam. So it must be a conscientious choice. Th...

Re: Another Mozart Centered Beam
Sounds like the safer choice, yes. I'm not sure, though, that a centred beam would make me play the music differently. Another story would be if we could have curved beams (à-la-JSBach), in which case, then, a centred beam could assume a musical meaning to, for example, not separate the notes too mu...

Re: Another Mozart Centered Beam
I agree with your choice.
Most of centred beams in my experience are there due to spacing concerns and not forcibly for musical reasons.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
I have a dream: beam slant sets!
You open the editor, set your ideal slants for every interval and up-down stem and it gets applied whenever possible!
