Re: Repeat and crescendo

My solution would be to write pppp cresc. p under the repeated bar (or the same with a hairpin), and then in a footnote:
"gradual crescendo through repetitions"

Re: Key signature tweaking

The space between accidentals in a key signature can be adjusted in the Document Options, but only globally. To have different space between individual accidentals is not possible within Finale's settings. The desired look might be accomplished by modifying the font itself (by giving different accid...

Re: XVIIIth centuary string notation

That is "bow vibrato" (i.e. making the rhythm heard by bow pressure only, without stopping the bow between notes).
Sometimes this notation is modernized into a slur with dots on each note. I'm not sure whether that means exactly the same, though.

I actually like the variable slants. They may also help distinguishing the different sharps from each other.

Re: My Accidental Glyphs

We're not talking about the same thing. I was talking about this distance

being shorter in the regular sharp and longer in the 3/4-sharp, a fact that seems illogical and aesthetically unmotivated to me.

Re: UE Product design Standards / & on cueing UE-rules

Thank you John for these examples, it is very interesting to see some real-life Arnstein parts!

What strikes me in the Malediction examples is the use of the whole-measure rest for all multi-measure rests, instead of the standard multi-measure rest symbol. A short-lived Arnstein experiment, I guess?

Re: My Accidental Glyphs

The new 3/4-sharp is now less wide, but its internal proportions seem a bit strange. When I look closely, it looks like the distance between the left extremity of the glyph and the left edge of the first vertical line in the 3/4-sharp is greater than the corresponding distance in the regular sharp ...

Re: My Accidental Glyphs

Sorry for my late reply. We're on holidays at the moment... I was however, unable to make a separate set for √2:2 proportions, because 1:√2 and √2:2 in fact represent the same ratio! Of course, silly me. No wonder I wasn't sure which ratio would work better... I should have spent another 2 seconds t...

Re: My Accidental Glyphs

I like the look of your accidentals a lot. What you show and say about your design principles makes sense to me. As someone who has to read microtonal notation regularly, I have some suggestions about the microtonal accidentals. To me, the 1/4-sharp is too narrow, it would be easy to miss it inbetwe...
