Hello,
I'm wondering what people think about the slur placement (specifically the ends, not the arch-shape/etc.) on stem-up notes. The opposite is quite easy as they go directly onto the note heads, as with ties.
Here are three variations:
The principal difference is whether they point toward the note head or the stem end (or somewhere in between). I've heard all three recommendations, though I mostly see the third and second options (slur ends pointing as close to the note-head as possible or somewhere in between, respectively). I quite rarely see the first version (attached to the stem ends), though I remember being told to do it specifically that way in my undergraduate years, humorously enough.
Does anyone know if there is an industry standard for this, or if it significantly varies based on the engraver(s) publishing company?
I'm also mainly interested in this straightforward situation; forget more complex placement issues that can occur.
Interested in people's thoughts!
