I’ll second this. The combined experience and knowledge of the people in this forum is breathtaking. We don’t all agree, but I have found particular value in many of the comments with which I may not fully agree.

@aleos I encourage you to stay.

Sorry we got off on the wrong foot, aleos.

I think that if you had posted a page of your score along with the example you wanted to imitate, I, for one would have been less confused, and you might have gotten a better result.

Uhm, Fred, we're all adults here right? You read my original post right?
If you read my original post, I was looking for commentary on margins rastral size, staff spacing. I was looking for commentary on that. If no one wanted to give that, or couldn't see anything in one of the more famous scores of the modernist period, by one of Americas greatest composers, and by one of the leading publishing houses, that's fine, "sorry Alex, I can't really see anything worth mentioning here". How many replies even referenced page margins, or staff spacing, staff thickness?

But instead everyone offered their opinion on what they like, to scold and talk down, as if their way was the proper way. As if I was some babe in the woods looking for engraver daddy to save me. Eager to be the smart kid in the class. Blah, so boring. Feels exactly like music university 30 years ago. Classic internet forum syndrome.

Thanks Fred, but no thanks. Exactly why I try to stay off forums. "there are many experienced composers and engravers here" "your output will almost certainly improve". hmm jesus, condescend much there Fred? Did you ever take the perspective that maybe I am a very experienced composer who likes sans serif font. And hard to read scores? Clearly Feldman was.

... then got offended when the score was commented on? Um, ok, but that's the entire point of this subforum! There are many very experienced music engravers and composers around here. Just to be clear Fred, I am not in any way offended. From what would I be offended? That you didn't like Feldman's score? Give me some credit, man. Surprised and disappointed, by the commentary? Yes. Please don't flip it. In fact, maybe it's you who is a bit offended, that I din't find any of your words, of any help what so ever. Felt like amateur hour here, a bunch of warriors, ignoring the question of the initial post, vying to the front of the line to tell Feldman and Universal Edition how bad the engraving was. Might as well tell Rothko that there's no subject in his colour field. He should go back to art school. Like I said, not the kind of salon that I prefer to discuss art in.

We can certainly help you to make your score more like the Feldman score, if you wish; but we'll need to see it.

However, I'd agree that it's hardly a paragon of engraving excellence.

Sorry if I offended you, @aleos .

We use a lot of humor on this forum because the topic itself is serious!

People here sometimes disagree; however, nobody has felt offended so far, or at least I haven't seen that happen since the forum was founded in 2015.

We also tend to avoid personal discussions.  People drop in, contribute their perspectives, and the question is usually resolved through consensus.

Many members here work for publishers such as Universal, Schott, Ricordi, Faber Music...  Daniel, for example, is one of the software designers behind Dorico, another one is software ex designer of Igor Engraver, etc.

Also, I like Feldman.

P.S. I would take @Fred G. Unn's advice seriously. He is a very knowledgeable person, as are many others here.

This is not possible without knowing the desired output size, which is not information that was provided.
