Re: "Warmth" and Note Size
Schonbergian, in looking at tempo markings in various publications more closely, I see a font that resembles New Century Schoolbook and TNR but lies between them in width. For example the "o's", are not quite are round as in NCS or as squashed as in TNR. Do you know what that font is?

Re: "Warmth" and Note Size
I much prefer the earlier size, even if it overlaps the lines slightly.

John, could you post an example of the specific font you're looking for?

Thanks, Schonbergian. The font in the Schenker Beethoven Sonata edition would be a good example. Or the one in the OP.

You could give this a shot, but I'm not sure if it would fit the style of your scores: https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/glc/1820-modern
This one is also fairly close: https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/urw/seizieme-pro

Here's a try using LilyPond (Noteheads and clef are tweaked):

I like your tweaking, Schneider! Any way to rotate the note heads more to have more contact with the staff lines alla OP and previous remarks by OCTO etc.

Re: "Warmth" and Note Size
Thank you for the font recommendations, Schonbergian. I guess what I am wondering is exactly what the font is that I am seeing in all the non-Durand publishers I am looking at starting with the Breitkopf and Haertel Complete Works editions of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven Brahms etc.

Re: "Warmth" and Note Size
Anyway, i was trying to make a notehead so it can fill in the gap within the space, but the stem on sibelius does not stick well with the notehead ..
