Hello fellow noteheads. Just letting those of you who may be interested know that the first installment of my Orchestration In Depth series is now available on the Apple Books bookstore, this volume being focused on Timpani. It is optimized for the Apple Books reader on the iPad and the desktop version also, and will be too small to read on an iPhone comfortably.

Can you tell us how you created it, what software you used and so on. Would be great to hear from the first hand.

Hey, thanks for asking.

I began the main authoring in iBooks Author, and did it there for about 85% of the book, and then had to switch to Pages for the remainder because Apple discontinued iBooks Author and transferred that responsibility to Pages. All of the graphics were illustrated in EazyDraw, and all of the notation was done in Sibelius.

I can post the table of contents later if anyone is interested in what I cover in the book.

Are you a percussionist and what instruments do you plan to cover in the future?

I’m a percussionist strictly in the hobbyist sense. My main instruments are brass and strings. The book itself is from the perspective of composing, orchestrating and arranging.

The next book will be on bowed orchestral strings, then brass, then winds.
