NOTATIO

I have a passage that is divisi strings (notated as split stems, up and down, as they have different rhythms), which ends on a doublestop for all those instruments, then continues unisono.

obviously, I've marked the beginning of the divisi passage with "div."

my problem is, once I get to the doublestop (simple, open strings) I used a non-divisi bracket "[", and then it continues unis.

should I write the unis. indication at the first unison notes?

or at the double-stop?

It looks funny to have two notes with the marking "unis" above them.

I assumed that since I'm using the non-div bracket I don't actually have to also include "non-div" as a text indication (it being redundant and all that.)

So what do the brains here think?

I think, trying to visualize it, a bracket would suffice.

I just encountered an identical situation.

I put "unis." at the double-stop.

Yes, I know the bracket essentially ends the divisi marking, but, you know - belt and suspenders. One can never be too clear.

Is the double-stop the same for both sections of the divisi? If so, I would, for the sake of clarity, write the double-stop with double stems, and after that a 'unis.' with single stems. (No bracket needed.)

I'm presently working on two large orchestral works. the particular instance is in ONE of those two scores, but they are 100 pages long.

I tried to search for them, but simply couldn't find it.

What about "non div." for the chord and then "unis." for the following passage?
Too much text?

yeah, it's very tight. if I recall it's all 8th notes.

since it's my own music, I MAY have gotten frustrated at not finding a suitable engraving solution, and re-written the passage!!
