I'm trying to find the most efficient way to notate a lead sheet with a non-standard form. Essentially, each verse is made up of 3 couplets, except for the 2nd verse, which is made up of 4 couplets. So the form would look like this:
Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2 with extra couplet
Chorus
Verse 3
Chorus
Verse 4
Chorus
Chorus with tag
My thinking is that the standard way to notate this would be:
Verse 1
Chorus
Repeat sign with "2nd time only" indication
Verse 2 with extra couplet
Chorus
D.C., take repeat to D.C. al Coda
Coda to last chorus with tag
This makes for a longer score than I would like. Does anyone know of another way to work around that odd chorus and still keep within a verse/chorus form (without notating the whole extra verse/chorus on separate systems)?
Thanks in advance!
Non-standard verse within a standard form
Re: Non-standard verse within a standard form
Verse 1, 3 and 4. (Assuming lyrics will fit the same music.)
Chorus
Verse 2 with extra bit :||
Final Chorus with tag, or just tag.
Chorus
Verse 2 with extra bit :||
Final Chorus with tag, or just tag.
Re: Non-standard verse within a standard form
Sometimes, a piece of music takes as many pages as it needs.
I have a maximum of 80 pages that I can run through my stapler, and I'll spend ages trying to make the music get under that count. Sometimes, like a holiday suitcase, it just... won't.... fit....! Then I have to bind it wire-o, and I can afford to use a few more pages and make it look a lot less cramped.
