Breaks

Post by db322014 »

Hello everybody!

Do you know how can I make breaks on barlines/note stems to insert an expression texts? The pics attached are from Cesar Franck's Sonata in A major, published by Henle, which show exactly what I refer to and need to learn.

Thank you

Depends on your software. In Finale one does it by adding an invisible rectangular enclosure around the expression of a size that will mask whatever you want hidden. Dorico has an erase background property that only erases bar lines, unfortunately. I recall that there is a workaround, but a complex one.

Hi John. Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I forgot to mention the software... it's Finale (latest version).
So, how can I add that rectangular enclosure? (didn't even know that was possible...)
I want to add this invisible retangle to add texts or symbols in-between stems/barlines.

Your welcome, db322014. Just one thing to add. You can make the line thickness say .01 so you can see what you are doing when you position the rectangle around the expression in the Designer. Then change it to 0 width so it becomes invisible on the page.
