I don't always really understand the rules regarding certain things (like beams hanging, straddling, sitting) nor how to apply them, so often rely on the software being properly programmed with its defaults.

But I have a sense of white space on the page, and seeing uncomfortable gaps, or elements too close together, seems to trigger me and I have to do something about it.

This is the most important aspect: the empty, white space.  Usually, a bad engraving has a lot of wasted, white spaces.

Effectively, no need for the dotted lines now (which I felt added a tiny bit of clutter.)

I agree and try to avoid dashed lines as much as possible.

Yours looks good. I would be tempted to so the following:

honestly, vertical position of sitting/hanging rests is always a conundrum for me.
With Dorico rest placement is a breeze, so this should barely take a few seconds to correct.

Here's the entire last system of that movement, and a bit of the next system/movement for an idea on white space.
I'm pretty satisfied with the result. (The movements are entitled "Chants", "Élégie", and "Ronde."

Is that an extra bass clef in the C.B. in the system above (at the very top of the example)? Unlike Finale, Dorico allows one to accidentally put in extra clefs of the same type in a row. I find that strange.

Very easy to miss these. I guess Dorico's proofreading tool would catch them, but I am curious as to why Dorico even allows this. Is there any case where two clefs of the same type in a row would be needed? But it might come in handy for some weird workaround some day, so I won't bring it up on the Dorico Forum.

On a completely different subject: I am wondering if a rest in a completely empty partial measure like the second part of m. 324 should be centered in the measure like a whole measure rest?
