Hi all,
I am having a bit of trouble trying to beam this bar, particularly the second phrase. The various beaming tools are not working for me for that phrase.
Any advice will be much appreciated!
PS: The tremolos are on notes 1 & 2, and 5 & 6.
Cheers,
Hector.

How to beam this?
Re: How to beam this?
How about this?
Edit: Added two more options but I think I like the tremolo_beaming.png the most, the position of beats is clearer for me.

I think the context would cause the player to end the trill on the auxiliary.

I agree with John—his notation is much simpler and conveys just as much information.

Re: How to beam this?
Thank you all very much! It's great to have such an excellent brains-trust online
I really appreciate all your suggestions and samples. The trill certainly has great clarity and I also really like seeing how the tremolos are meant to look. In my 30 page score, I have been using tremolo instead of trill. I will have to give some thought about consistency...! Do some composers use both trills and tremolos in the one part? I guess it is ok to do so...
Many thanks again for your help!
Cheers,
Hector.
edit: I have also just found some thoughts on the subject by Gould (p.134-135).

Re: How to beam this?
I would agree with Gould that direct juxtaposition of a trill with a tremolo, as in her example, might be confusing. However use of both trills and tremolos in the same piece is quite common. Check out Bartok's String Quartet no. 6 2nd movement ms 83-114 for an example of good usage.
