How can I make tuplets with different rhythms on Finale? Like a triplet with one eighth-note and one quarter-note, or a triplet with one quarter-note and two sixteenth-notes? It's weird coz sometimes I can do it and sometimes I can't...
You would probably get the most comprehensive reply if you go to the Finale Forum at https://www.finaleforum.com/index.php?s ... cde51a14d6 If you don't get a reply over there, I will do my best to explain what I have been doing in Finale's Speedy Entry. I've no idea how to do it in Simple Entry, but there will be people on the Finale Forum who do. And, very much to the point, they are well used to explaining exactly how to do this in both Speedy and Simple, as this question comes up quite frequently on that forum.
I use the tuplet too in Simple Entry. Input an eight note. Select the tuplet tool. Click on the eighth note and a box will come up asking you to define the tuplet, in this case 3 eighth notes instead of the normal two eighth notes which is the default in this case. Decide whether you want the number and bracket displayed. There are several options. Click OK. Then input your quarter note. You're done.

Yes, exactly what I do. It just doesn't work... Finale just doesn't allow me to insert different rhythms from those I have previously chosen. When that happens, I often have to use the Text tool or Articulation tool to draw a note and "cheat" on Finale this way... the problem now is that the note is C3 in G clef, so a supplementary line is needed. That is one thing Finale pisses me off...
This Finale file from 2012 (which I'm currently revising a little) is full of uneven triplets. To achieve the quaver then semiquaver (8th then 16th) combination for a triplet while in Speedy, I first keyed (on a Mac) Option>3 to specify a standard triplet (ie 3x in the space of 2x). I then entered a semiquaver to specify that the tuplet was to be three semiquavers in the space of two. After that, I backspaced to change the first note to a quaver. The defined triplet remains one of three semiquavers, even though it now starts with a quaver.
It's *very* much quicker and simpler to do than to describe, so I hope my description makes sense.

Finale is capable of the most complicated tuplets and nestled tuplets, so any kind of faking is certainly not necessary. If you are replacing something, just delete it and start again if you find that easier.
In any case, go over to Finale Forum as David Ward suggested, actually show them what you are doing, and they will put you straight. This kind of thing has come up over and over. It is always "user error". Sometimes people have trouble putting tuplets in at the end of measures for example.
